Between Two Worlds
I participated as a deviser and actor in DogEar Theatre’s production of Between Two Worlds, performed at Daley Park as part of the Tempe Arts in the Park. Founded by Danica Rosengren, now alumna of the Theatre for Youth program at ASU, DogEar Theatre works to create devised. immersive experiences for young audiences. I worked on this show with Danica as part of her final Applied Project. Between Two Worlds retells the Greek myth of Persephone and Demeter, recounting the experience from Persephone’s point of view as an active agent in her decision to live in the underworld. As part of the devising process, we worked with how to incorporate shadow and puppetry to create the world of the show, as well how to develop an active role for the audience in the transitions of our promenade style piece. As well, we integrated youth’s perspective in the creation of the show, and I helped to facilitate a development workshop with a group of middle schoolers. For my work in particular, I wanted to gain new artistic skills and insight into how to include youth’s input into the development of a Theatre for Young Audiences piece. I wanted to be a part of a community partnership in order to expand my knowledge on artist participation with schools and city programs.
